How to choose a dog groomer
What to look for in a salon, and the questions most owners forget to ask.

A good groomer keeps your dog comfortable as well as tidy.
Visit first
Ask to see the salon. It should be clean, calm and not overcrowded, with dogs waiting in proper kennels rather than tied to a rail.
Questions to ask
- How long will my dog be there, and will they be left alone?
- Do you use cage dryers, and if so are dogs supervised?
- What is your experience with my breed's coat?
- What do you do if my dog becomes distressed?
- Are you insured and trained in canine first aid?
Be honest
Tell them about matting, skin conditions, arthritis and any handling issues. Groomers can plan around problems they know about; they cannot around surprises.
After the first groom
Check your dog's skin, ears and nails, and note how they behave next time you arrive. Willingness to go back in is the real review.
