Teaching a reliable recall
Make coming back the best decision your dog ever makes.

Recall is the most valuable thing you can teach, and the easiest to accidentally poison.
Rule one
Never call your dog for something they dislike. Do not call them to end the walk, to have a bath, or to be told off for something they did thirty seconds ago.
Build it
Use a unique word. Say it once, then pay enormously: five pieces of chicken in a row, one after another, not one biscuit.
Long line
A 10 metre long line on a harness lets you practise safely in open space before you trust off lead.
Real life
Call, reward, release them back to what they were doing. If coming back always ends the fun, your dog will do the maths.
