If your pet goes missing

1. 1Search the immediate area and call calmly; frightened animals hide close by
2. 2Report to the microchip database as missing straight away
3. 3Ring local vets, rescues and the council's dog warden
4. 4Post on local social media groups with a clear photo and the area
5. 5For cats, search sheds, garages and under cars at dawn and dusk, and leave out their bed and litter tray

Prevention

Keep chip details updated, use a collar tag with your phone number, and photograph your pet from several angles including any distinctive markings.
