Fleas, worms and ticks: a simple routine
What to treat, how often, and how to remove a tick properly.
Parasite control is routine maintenance, not a reaction to a problem.
Fleas
Treat all pets in the house, on schedule. Ninety-five percent of a flea population lives in your carpets and bedding, so vacuum and wash at 60 degrees too.
Worms
Frequency depends on lifestyle. Dogs that scavenge or eat raw food, and hunting cats, need more frequent treatment. Lungworm risk in dogs that eat slugs and snails needs a specific product.
Ticks
Check after every walk in long grass, especially the head, ears, armpits and between toes. Use a tick hook, twist and lift; never pull, burn or use vaseline. Watch the site for a spreading rash.
Ask your vet which products suit your pet, and never use dog products on cats. Some are fatal to cats.
