Rehabilitation And Training
My name is Steve Hutley, and I am a Dog Behaviour Professional. I am a retired Police Dog Handler with 19 years of frontline experience working with Police dogs during my 30-year career with Essex Police. After retiring from the force, having completed a two year dog psychology course with the British College of Canine Studies where I qualified with a Dog Behaviour Practitioner Diploma, I established my own nationwide business, ‘Rehabilitation and Training’, where I now dedicate my time to helping owners and their dogs build stronger, more balanced relationships. The heart of my work is what I call “The Nucleus of Dog Training.” This unique methodology is founded on a simple but powerful principle: dogs learn best when they teach themselves. By guiding dogs to understand that listening and responding to our requests is how they access everything they value in our human world — from food and toys to affection, attention, praise, and freedom — they naturally form habits that last a lifetime. Because these behaviours are self-learned rather than forced, they become deeply ingrained in the dog’s mind. Put simply, effective training is about teaching good habits to replace unwanted ones, ensuring those habits stick.
