Vertical space
Cats measure territory in height. Shelves, cat trees and window perches multiply usable space.
Hunting
Cats are designed for ten to twenty small hunts a day. Use puzzle feeders and scatter feeding rather than one bowl, and finish wand-toy play with a catch and a meal.
Resources
The rule is one per cat plus one, spread around the house: litter trays, water bowls, beds and scratching posts. Water away from food, and food away from the tray.
Signs of boredom
Overgrooming, night yowling, attacking ankles, and pestering at 4am.
